In general, genetic tests look to detect some feature of a person's genetic code. This feature can be a disease causing mutation or a DNA sequence used to detect the presence of another gene. Obviously these procedures are used for testing the capacity of DNA, RNA or chromosomes included in genetic tests. Genetic tests have been divided into four categories, and they will be considered in greater detail. The categories are:
Prenatal tests during pregnancy.
Neonatal screening just after birth and career screening.
Testing for serious late-onset disease.
Testing to assess the probability of developing complex disease.
Prenatal testing is the process of testing the genetic state of an embryo when there is a risk of a serious disease or when there is a risk of chromosomal disorder such as Down syndrome.
