To tell you the truth im really not sure where to start with album. To say John Linnel's State Songs is creative is an understatement. Does one start at the fact that the album is composed of songs about the fifty states and the songs has nothing to do with the actual states they are named after? Or does one start at the fact that the songs are so inconsistent in sound, length and quality?
Take for instance the first song on the album, "Illinois". This song sounds like the theme song of Mario, which although was an awesome game, had a repetitive, almost annoying sound track. But then the next song "The Songs of the 50 states" is a little more fun. Its almost like the thesis of what the entire album is about. Its an upbeat song with ridiculous lyrics. But for some reason the combination of piano, fake guitar and bass clarinet works...
