Socrates, Greek philosopher, who influenced the Western philosophy through his pupil, Plato was born in Athens. He became familiar with the Sophists techniques of rhetoric and dialectics. He spent a major part of his life in the marketplace and public places of Athens to debate with citizens, because he believed that argument was a more superior way of getting messages across rather than the written language. Being a philosopher, you would think he was dry and boring; on the contrary he was a witty and had a sense of humor that made him popular in the society.
Socrates' philosophy was based on understanding the concept of justice, love and virtue and self knowledge. He said that intelligence is within everyone who is not ignorant and that no person is bad in nature. He emphasized on argument and question in pursuit of truth and general definitions in the elements of life. Socrates strongly believed in the absolute nature of truth and justice.
