Multiracial Societies
A multiracial society is one where different ethnic, religious and racial groups live together. At times, the people live in harmony, creating a rainbow nation like Singapore and Mauritius but at times there are continuous conflicts like in India.
People living in multiracial societies such as Mauritius and Singapore ultimately learn the different cultures of other people belonging to different ethnic groups. They discover new customs, values, norms and beliefs. For example, the people of Mauritius are aware of the Hindu, Christian, Muslim and Chinese customs. Therefore, the people have a better understanding of the thoughts and reactions of the different people and they are more likely to have good interpersonal and professional relationships. They are usually more broad-minded and tolerant. The people also learn to appreciate the difference in others and accept changes. Children emerging from multiracial societies can grow into very friendly adults who are willing to break barriers among different racial groups.
