Since I got here in May, I have been in awe. I never imagined that I would be on Tinian Island in the south pacific preparing for the end of World War II. However, this needs to be done and I am ready to do what it takes to do it. It is necessary for the United States to end this war before others parish.
Today is July 26th and I am heading off to the docks to supervise in the unloading of "Little Boy". The cruiser Indianapolis just dropped anchor a few minutes ago and I can see them unloading a huge crate. It looks to be about 15-foot squared and inside is one of the biggest bombs I will ever see. This mission is definitely going to proceed. In a few days we will leave, and whether or not the mission is successful or not will be up to us.
Training has been tough the past couple months, but we are as ready as we will ever be...
