Located approximately 1000 miles southwest of Miami and nestled in between Belize and Nicaragua, you can find the mountainous country of Honduras. Most land in Honduras is covered by mountains, hence the country's nickname, "the Tibet of Central America." Honduras has a large coastal line with the Caribbean Sea and a small access to the Pacific to the south. The Caribbean coast can experience a lot of rain, the heaviest being from September to February. In Tegucigalpa, the capital, the climate remains on the temperate side with its dry season taking place from December to May. The capital can also get chilly in December and January when the temperature in the city gets down into the 60's. But for the most part, Honduras is hot and humid almost all year-round. The average high temperature nationwide is 90 but the low is only 68 . The temperatures vary more by altitude than by season; therefore, the coolest temperatures are in the mountains.
