Outline Critical Analysis Essay: Title: The African American legends of Prose Lucy Terry and Phyllis Wheatley Introduction: On the other hand both Lucy Terry and Phyllis Wheatley were literary pioneers of early 18th century. Mind you this was a time when slavery was at its forefront and these two women took the initiative to write poetry in the English language and tradition using styles of formality, couplet, tetrameter, and ballad. Both captured into slavery at young ages the two were led to believe as converted Christians that slavery was some how there salvation, by obeying their slave masters they would become closer to God. Though both had similarities they were two individuals that used their talents in different ways after her marriage to free slave Oblijah Prince, Terry became known as a respected advocate for civil rights, she became a noted speaker against discrimination.
