Title IX: Is it reverse discrimination?
Title IX is one of the great social experiments of the modern age. It is, in a sense, the affirmative action of collegiate sports. In an attempt to promote equality and opportunity among women's athletics in the collegiate arena, Title IX has created a wave on controversy. In it's conception, it is a grand and idealistic attempt to equalize a long history of male domination in the sporting venues on college campuses, but in its implementation is Title IX backfiring? Does Title IX, for all it's good intentions create a type of reverse discrimination and what effect does it have on the athletes?
Numbers of roster sports on women's athletics teams are proportional to total enrollment of women in the school as the number of men's roster sports is proportional to male enrollment (ABC News). The use of Title IX is to help introduce women in to Collegent level athletics. Since Title IX was introduced, women's athletic programs have begun to compete with the men's programs because of the increase in women's athletics.
