Records Management
The purpose of this report is to evaluate the different methods and media used for storing organisations non-current records in a newly implemented central records centre.
With this organisations requirements in mind this report aims to provide enough information to allow for informed decisions to be made in the development of a successful and efficient records centre.
The report shall cover the following factors:
• Overview of records management
• Evaluation of the relevant media available
• Evaluation of the relevant methods available
• Protection of records
• Recommendations of why the media and methods were chosen and how they can assist the organisation

• The key aim when designing and implementing a records management system should be to improve the management of information and the quality of archived records in relation to the organisation’s own strategies and policies. ... 2 Objectives
• To fully be able to execute the aim of the records management system, a number of objectives should be considered. Those objectives are as follows:
• Determine which records and what information is in need of assessment.
• Decide who will have responsibility for the records and who will be allowed access to which records.

Definition of records management:

We are currently living in such an information rich environment that ordinary business operations are becoming increasingly complex; along with the escalating levels of regulation in our society the intricacy for record keeping requirements increases.
Records are both created and received by organisations everyday in the general course of business. These organisations are now realising the importance of ensuring that not only are the records required to support business activities and legal requirements created in the first place but also that they are managed effectively.
Non-current records may not be of immediate use to a business but they can be valuable for numerous other purposes such as researching and examining past culture and policy and how it has changed within the organisation or personal records could be used for pension purposes. As these records form the businesses individuality it is essential to consider the various media and methods available in order to store non-current records in the most appropriate and effective manner.
