Taxonomy-- Subphylum-Crustacea-Copepods, Crabs and Krill. About 80% of animal species belong to the Arthropoda. They are by far the most successful phlum of animals.
Habitat-- Arthropodas can be found on top of mountians, at great depths of the ocean, and in the icy wilderness of Antartica. They can survive great extremes of temperature, toxicity, acidity, and salinity. They are found in greater variety of habitats then any other animal group.
Physical Characteristics-- Internal: Open circulatory system, with dorsal heart, arteries and haemocoel- allows them to breath easier. Respiration by body surface, gills, trachae or book lungs- allows them to move faster. Coelom reduced; most of body cavity consisting of haemocoel filled with blood- allows them to hold more blood. Appendages jointed; primitively, one pair to each somite, but number often reduced; may be modified for special functions...
