The tragic death of Neil Perry in Dead Poets Society was caused by a combination of people and events that took place throughout the film. Although there were a few contributing factors the majority of the blame must be placed on one particular person. The school, Mr Perry, The dead poets society, Mr Keating and Mrs Perry all had significant roles to play in the end result but Neil was the one that decided to take his life and therefore is most to blame for the tragic end result.
Mr Perry was portrayed in this film as a cold rather foreboding man. Underneath all this though was a loving father who simply wanted what (he thought) was the best for his son. Unfortunately Mr Perry went over board. He did not ask once throughout the film what Neil really until the end and by that point Neil was to defeated to answer. Mr Perry did not want to hurt his son but was unable to accept the path Neil wanted his life to take. He thought that doing the best for his son involved him deciding Neil's decisions for him. Neil had never really been shown another way of living so when a man came into his life telling him to 'Seize the day' he jumped at the different style of thinking and embraced it whole heartedly...
