The miners who have been made unemployed are likely to face many problems as a result of the pit closures. Firstly, they will obviously have to face a lower standard of living because they are receiving no income, except for their unemployment benefits. Therefore the family will have less money to spend on essentials such as food and clothing. The miners will feel humiliation that they are unable to support their families properly. This is likely to lead to tension within the home and could even lead to marital breakdowns.
The miners are likely to feel depressed by the situation they find themselves in. This depression could worsen in such a way that their health becomes affected. For example, the depression could lead to bad nutrition, mental health problems and even suicide.
These health problems are likely to stem from the feeling of worthlessness the workers have. Being made unemployed is likely to affect their self-esteem in a bad way...
