Greek Influence on Western Civilization

The Greeks had a great influence on western civilization. They influenced our culture through their philosophy. They also influenced the western world's appearance through the way their world looked. Some of their greatest influence on western culture was from the thoughts of single men.
Most of our culture is influenced by thought (doc 1), reasoning (doc 2), democracy (doc 3), and health and trust (doc 4). Socrates, a philosopher who lived in Athens from 470-399 BCE, said that the unexamined life is not worth living (doc1). This shows that even back in Greece living life to the fullest mattered. Later on his student, Aristotle, who lived in Athens from 384-322 BCE, stated that "a life guided by reason is superior to any other" (Doc 2). One thing that sets people apart from others in western civilization is those who can reason. Anyone who can reason is able to get further in life, and this ideal was originally started in Greece...
