Platoon
Platoon is a movie that depicts a rather dark part of American history. The movie portrays the events that were taking place in the mid to late 1960's in Vietnam. There was much turmoil both in America and within the troops involved in the war. In America there were college students protesting being drafted into the war and protesting the war itself. In Vietnam there were struggles within the platoons, power struggles, arguments, and other incidents. The movie also showed the affect Vietnam had on a fresh soldier entering the war.
In America there were many people protesting the war. Grandparents did not want their grandchildren to go off to war, parents did not want their children leaving, but most of all there were students on college and university campuses protesting. This is only mentioned briefly during the movie. Taylor, the main character, reminisces of his parents trying to convince him to do what the family members had done in the past; get a college education, get a job, get married and have children...
