The Shakespearian play Taming of the Shrew gives its audience an idea of what life was like during Shakespeare's time. Nowadays our lifestyles are drastically different. Gil Junger's 1999 movie 10 Things I Hate About You, is a witty remake of the Shakespearian classic. Although the pieces take place during two different eras, there are many interesting similarities, as well as differences between the two.
The Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You both portray the act of marrying/dating for money. During the 1500's the way one's other half was chosen was based on their family and wealth. This applies to Kate and Petruccio's marriage. Petruccio did not want to get married. However, once he found out Kate was extremely wealthy the idea of marriage suddenly appealed to him.
