Americans live their life with one goal: the persuit of happiness. For some, happiness comes through materialistic consumption. Realizing this, advertisers have craftily skilled their trade into confusing our wants with our needs, manipulating our fears, and focusing upon what we cannot control, our unconcious desires.
In Style magazine, a popular publication for savvy 18 to 35 year old women desiring to make a name for themselves is quite representative as a manipulative force within advertising. In the magazine, over one-third of all pages are dedicated to consumer ads. While each product advertised is not needed, all are shown to improve upon your life dramatically if purchased.
A luxury within most people's lives is alcohol. Skyy Vodka, a reasonably affordable alcohol product, is advertised within In Style. At their reader's age, most are experimenting with alcoholic beverages for the first time or fully enjoying the benefits of a good drink. One popular drink, the martini, is featured within the campaign's slogan "Drink dirty martinis, not Dirty Vodka"...
