Cold Blooded Commentary
In this passage, Cold Blooded by Margaret Atwood uses the literary technique of tone to accentuate the theme of curiosity. The theme of curiosity is highlighted by the moths about the "blood creatures" in the format of a letter informing their fellow species about their findings and observations. The moths compare and contrast themselves with the "blood creatures" emphasizing their search for knowledge about the alien species. The tone that is delivered by the moths is a formal one but also has a hint of disgust towards the "blood creatures." In addition, criticism, diction and word choice, and a metaphor is used to greater the impact of the reaction by the reader. This tonal effect not only emphasizes their curiosity towards the "blood creatures" buts adds to formation of the theme of curiosity.
