Shawkshank Redemption insight

I chose to use the film 'Shawkshank Redemption' in order to fully demonstrate the process of discovering insight according to the philosopher Bernard Lonergan. The character I chose to focus on is named Andy Dufrense. It initially begins with him learning that his wife has been unfaithful but from there it has the snowball affect; everything he knew before to be his life becomes no longer a reality. This movie is about an innocent man who was convicted of murder and given two life sentences to face back to back. We do not however, learn that Andy is innocent until halfway through the movie. Andy continues to state all along that he was innocent but the facts were completely against him. The stages he goes through while deciding to either accept this new life that has been thrown upon him, or establish a better one are clearly shown throughout this movie. Andy does in-fact fulfill all aspects of Lonergan's theory and he does this in the order which Lonergan originally proposes. He first discovers what he needs and eventually is able to acquire this desire.
The first stage of being able to experience insight is to be able to point out your desire, the thing you desperately need and are longing to achieve...
