"The Most Dangerous Game"
Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game" is a classic story of cat and mouse. Connell's intention is to show the reader the point of view of all hunted animals that have no communication skills. He does this by reversing the roles, making the hunter become the hunted. Connell shows his motives through the two main characters in the story: Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. Rainsford is depicted as being the protagonist in this story and the antagonist is General Zaroff. Both have countless similarities and differences. General Zaroff and Rainsford have backgrounds in hunting game throughout the world and in doing so they have mastered the art of hunting. Neither General Zaroff nor Rainsford recognize anything else outside of the rules and techniques of hunting. However, the difference between what animal each is anticipating hunting is where the clash is initiated among protagonist and antagonist.
