Margareta has a false belief in God. Margareta is first portrayed as a very religious girl. "Sinless the girl attends confession-hour/And over her the devil has no power (pg. 120)," Mephistopheles explains about Margareta. Throughout the story she is tempted by many evils and her once strong faith is corrupted. She comes off as being religious by saying to Faust, "But not with faith or need:/You never go to mass, or say your creed./Do you believe in God? (pg. 152)" Margareta is concerned with Faust not believing in God when in actuality she should be concentrating on her own morals...
