The internet, a vast collection of networks, connecting computers from every corner of the earth to one another, is a huge playground for the distribution information. Whether it is illegal or legal, the internet is one of the best ways to exchange information. There is a new type of information being distributed on the internet known as Mpeg-3( mp3 ). ... Then this person takes the data and tells the computer to encode it into a file format, mp3, which compresses the file size without having to compromise any of the sound quality. Since any person that has a computer with a CD-ROM and a mp3 encoder can encode a song from a compact disk into a mp3 file, they can just as easily distribute the audio, copyrighted or not, to anyone connected to the internet. ... This is the same thing that people do with mp3 files. People take a compact disk that they own themselves and encode something that they like into mp3.
