Hosea and Amos
Hosea and Amos were both written in the 750's in an era just before the Assyrians took over the northern nation. Both of these books were written to the tribes of the north because they had become corrupt, and refused to follow the path of the covenant that had been handed to Moses. Hosea and Amos both focused on the Ten Commandments/ the expectations of the way of the covenant, or how the people were supposed to act, however each one focused on a different section of the covenant. Hosea focused on idolatry where as Amos focused on injustice.
Amos was written to the north in the approximate year of 750, right before the Assyrians took over. Amos was angered by the way the people of Israel had begun to act. In his book, Amos spoke badly of the Northern Kingdom of Israel because of there immoral actions. His focus on injustice is hidden under the idea that the people have a direct relationship to the community and that they need to follow the commandments to make sure that they eventually follow what God has asked of them. Amos was disgusted with the fact that the rich were acting with a lot of piety and not helping there community.
