Using examples from MEDCs and LEDCs, discuss the spatial variations in land use patterns in urban areas.
As cities have grown in area and population in the 20th century, many geographers and sociologists have tried to identify and explain the variation in spatial patterns. Spatial patterns may show differences and similarities in land use or social groupings with in a city, reflect how various urban areas have evolved economically, socially and culturally in response to the changing conditions over a period of time. Although some cities have their own distinctive patterns e.g. Tokoyo, which has a multiple number of city centres, which have grown around separate factors, it is still been recognised that most MEDC cities comply with a similar pattern and have the same number of functional zones or sectors. This is also shown with LEDC cities.
In this part of my essay, I will be studying London as the example MEDC City and look at the different functional zones, which exist in the city.
