The British Isles

The British Isles lie just about twenty-one miles off the coast of Western Europe. This realm consists of two major islands and a cluster of tiny ones. They are still called the British Isles even though British domination over that region ended in 1921. This may be one reason they are grouped together as a region because until 1921 Britain had dominated these lands for centuries. Another reason for there grouping could be the fact that they are a cluster of islands in very close proximity to one another and share lots of the same history, politics, landscape, industry, and religion.
The United Kingdom, or UK, is a nation-state and occupies the isle of Britain and the northeastern corner of Ireland. The UK is divided into counties, which was pasted on to the United States. It has a population of 59.9 million and is a large country by European standards. It encompasses the countries of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and an additional sixth subregion off Britain's northern coast in the North Sea...
