The Days of Fright Alice Hanson is a curious, daring, and outgoing girl with dark brown hair down to her shoulders. She is in seventh grade and goes to school with her good friend Bruce Midfield. Bruce is chubby and a little shorter than the average height for his age. He has dark brown buzzed hair with brown eyes and is known as a “scaredy cat.” Alice’s little brother, Nick, is in fourth grade and hangs around with Alice and Bruce daily. He is short, intelligent, and brave. He has dirty blonde hair, and is always looking for adventure. Alice is the oldest, 12, and the tallest. Bruce is 11 years old and Nick is 9. “Let’s go to the cemetery guys, maybe we could set up a plan to scare people who walk by on Halloween!” Alice said excitedly. “I’d rather stay here and watch a movie or something.” said Bruce with hope she would let him stay behind this once. “Oh come on Bruce, we might be able to find some vampires or zombies, there is only two days till Halloween you know!” said Nick anxiously. After nagging, begging, and threatening to take Bruce off the threesome group, he finally agreed. The three walked to the cemetery, which is about two blocks away from Alice and Nick’s house. They climb up the fence and roam around the dark, mysterious cemetery looking for the perfect spot to hide on Halloween. “Over there, there’s a big tree right next to the sidewalk” said Alice. They ran to the tree. They hear a loud crack ahead of them. “What’s that noise?” asked Bruce with fear. “Probably a cat.” Alice said. “A huge cat!” said Nick. “Why would you say that?” Alice asked questionably. “Because it has a huge shadow!” said Nick. They looked toward where they heard the noise and started to see smoke rising from the ground around a tree. “It’s a fire!” exclaims Bruce. “Let’s get out of here!” he says with hope Alice and Nick will take his suggestion. Nick, being the intelligent young child he is, sniffed around and examined the smoke. “It can’t be fire, there’s no light and no smell.” said Nick confidently. “It’s just fog and mist.” “Why would there be fog only in one small area?” Alice asks. “Let’s go check it out!” Alice walks forward carefully stepping through the wet grass without a sound. She stops behind a tree and looks back and sees Nick behind her and Bruce still at the big tree looking as if he was frozen. “Bruce!” Alice and Nick whispered loud enough for him to hear. He stayed there for a moment like he had so many ideas running through his head, and then hurried towards Nick and Alice.
