Gender Education--The Equity of Male and Female
In "Why Boys Don't Play with Dolls," by Katha Pollitt, and "The American Man at Age Ten," by Susan Orlean, proven to me that the children's living environment and the way their parents raised them are very important because it can have an effect on the children to be straight or gay and the way they perform themselves. Gender equity is when there are equal opportunities for both males and females so that they are able to achieve the same goals and to be treated equally.
As soon as children are born, they are introduced to gender stereotypes. Peers are very influential in children's lives. Children attempt to gain acceptance of their peers. They usually play in same-sex groups, figuring out themselves in their interests and personalities. For example, ever since the children starting to have friends of their own sex, they will learn from each other's personalities, the way they express themselves, or even the way they talk. Ever since I came to the United States ten years ago, I have been living with my little cousins. I have learned that ever since they started to attend school, they often brought back what they had learned from other school children. As for my youngest cousin, he would say bad words that he learned from other children in school to his brother...
