With natural resources dwindling and human consumption ever increasing, we are faced with the question: are we facing an environmental crisis. There is great evidence that to persuade the argument either way. However, I feel that if consumption and population continue to increase at the current rate, we will face an environmental crisis.
On one hand there is the Malthusian view that states "population growth would outstrip the food resources with catastrophic consequencesmass starvation, poverty, and economic and social collapse." I strongly agree with this viewpoint but I also have a strong belief in the Neo-Malthusian viewpoint which argues "for strong birth control measures." We as humans have to exert some sort of responsibility in this population boom. I feel that birth control is a viable resource to reducing the population and population growth rate.
Another argument presented in the environmental crisis question is whether or not environmental degradation can be attributed to consumption. I do not believe that consumption of such things as food can be linked to degradation. I do however feel that land consumption could possibly be linked to it...
