War in Iraq
Ever since the Bush administration declared that America was going to wage a war on Iraq, many people started stipulating different theories regarding the "real" motivation behind the war. Some people put forward that America was fighting for oil and other economic gains. The American government claimed that there were "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq that must be seized in order to avoid terrorist acts by Saddam Hussein. However, there is a problem with this scenario. Saddam had little or nothing to do with the terrorist acts against the United States. In his book, "The New Rulers of the World", John Pilger stated that early in 2001, the US government had declared that Saddam Hussein was disarmed and presented no threat (Pilger, 48). But the White House officials seized on the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center to carry on with their long-held plans to take control of valuable oil resources in the Middle East and elsewhere.
I believe that the US actions in Iraq had nothing to do with fighting terrorism but were part of an opened-ended war for American global dominance. It is quite common for strong countries to exhibit their power to other nations. It is believed that power can be used to exercise control, and American government desires to retain that control over other countries...
