Oil Spills
For many years the United States has been importing oil. Over those years millions of gallons of oil have been spilled into oceans and fresh water. Oil spills have become one of the most devastating disasters in the environment. Such disasters cause surmounting implications that will haunt our oceans and freshwaters for decades to come. The prevention of oil spills has yet to be mastered; although we have been reducing spills the system is just not good enough. According to the EPA over 14,000 oil spills are reported each year. Several government agencies are currently involved in developing prevention tactics in multiple ways. In addition to prevention programs there are also many volunteers along with agencies that are dedicated to the clean up efforts after spills.
