The reason for choosing Shakespeare's Sonnet 18, is because we are studying William Shakespeare and some of his sonnets including Sonnet 18, in my high school English class. After doing some research about Shakespeare, I have come to an understanding of the poems he has written. When I was told that he had written this Sonnet for a young man, I had questions running through my head: was he a gay writer? Why would he write a love poem to a guy? Please tell me he was married? If you really think about it, you can take this poem as Shakespeare not really writing to a certain person directly but writing in the context of friendship in general and how he wants his friendships to go on forever so he and everyone in his life can enjoy it together.
