Section B:
Killing Lizards. A short story published in 1981.
Facing the boundary between childhood and the age of puberty, the twelve-year-old boy Gavin, is being haunted by dreams in which his sister and father die. The result of this, is that Gavin now has his mother for himself. He knows that these dreams are wrong but he can't help it they keep on coming. According to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis where he describes the "Oedipus complex" , it is a stage where the child desires the mother and resents the father sometimes the child even wishes the fathers death. These desires are among mentally sane being repressed, and will arise in dreams. The same phenomenon appears in the short story "killing lizards", where Gavin represses the wish of his sisters death(he hates her), and afterwards it appears in his dreams this time both the sister and father are being killed. These rather cruel wishes are a result of Gavins sexual instinct towards his mother making him jealous of his sister because she gets attention from her.
