Trees are a limited commodity. The logging industry is lucrative, but at a high cost to the environment. There is money to be made through paper industries, furniture, and hunting of rare animal species. When I think about the issue of deforestation, the Dr. Seuss story of The Lorax and the truffula trees comes to mind. Although fanciful, the story provides an accurate depiction of what happens when greed causes us to abuse the environment that we live in. Today, the battle between industry and environment persists. There is still the question of how much regulation, and how to go about enforcing it.
The dissipation of forests greatly affects the global carbon cycle. Deforestation increases the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, thus enhancing the greenhouse effect and contributing to global warming...
