Fuel Efficient Cars
The energy department reported last year that cars and light trucks consume 10 percent of the annual global oil production, which is about 8 million of 77 million barrels produced each day (Detroit). Without changing, in about 30 years we are looking at demands for fuel to increase by at least 2.5 times the present demand, and air that is extremely darker than today (Naiman). Improving the fuel economy of cars is the quickest, cleanest, cheapest way to handle this situation, and the problems that could come along with it.
Cars that consume less fuel per mile are classified as fuel-efficient. The most fuel-efficient cars are produced by Toyota and Honda, followed by Volkswagen (Naiman). These car manufacturers use hybrid engines, electric motors, fuel cells, and other new technologies; producing vehicles that are 50 to 75 percent more fuel-efficient than gasoline powered engines.
Honda uses hybrids, like others Honda's model uses the electric motor to supplement the gas engine. These hybrid electric cars use the best traits of gasoline powered, and electric cars. The wheels are driven by electric motors, which are powered by the engine through wires instead of a drive shaft (Element)...
