  1.     The plot of Lorraine Hanberry's "What Use Are Flowers," is very simple. It consists of an older man living in the woods by himself for years, and then these children come along. The man used to be an English professor, but now he has lost track of time so much that he does not even know his exact age. At first the children are annoying him with their presence and ignorance because his whole point in being a hermit is to escape from other humans. Then he realizes that the kids do not know anything, not even how to speak a language, because their parents were all killed in the war that was occurring during that time. He becomes adjusted to the children, and he uses his skills as a former English professor to become their teacher/ parent.
  2.     According to "What Use Are Flowers," the hermit believes that the human life should be a peaceful learning experience. He chose not to be around other humans because they acted more like animals than loving people...
