"A Good Man Is Hard to Find" was written by Flannery O'Connor in 1953. Though there are many themes that could be interpreted in this piece of literature, the only true theme remained in the mind of the author. Because of this, we can only speculate as to what this story means. Is it symbolic of humanity's declining morality? Does it imply the manipulative tendencies of the human race? If there are people that are meant to be manipulators and liars, then there must be people to manipulate and deceive. Otherwise, what’s the point to lying and manipulating? Without the sheep to be led to slaughter, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find?wouldn’t be much of a story. Manipulation is the most prominent theme in the story.
