This laboratory is an introductory to control systems. We studied three cases, the first being a single order plant, second an over-damped second order plant, and the third an under-damped second order plant. Using the oscilloscope and waveform generator, we were able to measure the input signal and output signal for each case. Utilizing the various functions of the oscilloscope we were able to calculate the time constant, frequency and gain. Using these values we were able to create a transfer function relating the output signal to the input signal, of each case. This allows us to create a relationship between the output and the input, a powerful tool for analyzing.
Utilizing the measurements found we derived the theoretical transfer functions for each of the circuits previously mentioned. We also observed how varying values for resistors, capacitors, and damping ratios could greatly influence the output of the system. This should be considered when designing control systems.
