As I was flipping through the pages of a Maxim magazine last Saturday, I noticed Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher staring me in the eyes promoting a stick of Old Spice. This caught my attention and I decided to read the add. I admit, when a 250-pound linebacker can get his point across, but there are many questions I ask myself after reading the add. Questions like, "What is so new about this deodorant?" and "What is so special about the Odor Defense System?" are two that come to my mind.
I think that the number one think that they are trying to get across the reader is that a big football player is telling you to do something. Intimidation plays a big role in the ad. If a popular sports player is telling you to do something, or is saying what is the best product, people are going to listen. Brian Urlacher is a huge role model and when kids that read that he uses Old Spice deodorant, they are going to be like, "Wow!..
