Man Friday
- Should Crusoe be admitted to the tribe?
Man Friday is the story of two cultures meeting. It's the story of the encounter between a civilized man, and a savage.
Crusoe, an English man, has survived a shipwreck, and has for a while lived alone on a deserted island. In a storm, another boat capsizes, and four savage people from another island, are thrown up on the shore of Crusoe's island by the waves. Unfortunately, one of the savages has not survived the disaster, and to do the dead man honour, the three remaining savages eat his flesh.
Crusoe discovers them; presumes that they are barbaric cannibals; and ends up killing two of the savages. The one left, he believes is a victim for the cannibals. Crusoe thinks he's saved the life of this man, and names him Friday.
Crusoe wants to teach Friday of civilization, of how to live correctly, and save him from being a primitive and unknowing creature...
