High Renaissance w/ Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti
Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the first painters to make the transition from the early renaissance to the high renaissance. His curiosity for knowledge led him to be a magnificent artist. He studied optics deeply which led to his understanding of perspective light and color. During this time in northern Europe, where Leonardo was studying, weaponry had been developed and cities were being threatened by others wanting to overtake them. Leonardo painted Last Supper for the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. Christ is the center of this painting and his head is the focal point of all converging perspective lines in the composition. The two disciples at the end of the table seem to be quiet so that the emotional composition goes inward towards Christ and then is calm again with Christ. This was one of the first paintings of Italian High Renaissance style. The high renaissance style focused on perfection and everything being in perspective.
