Angels and Devils
Much can be compared and contrasted about the characters, Jamie Mays a runaway wife and Bill Houston an ex-Navy man, ex-Con, and ex-husband in the short novel written by Denis Johnson, Angels. My first impression of Jamie Mays was that of an insecure person. "Jamie could sense that they [the nuns] found her make-up too thick, her pants too tight. They [the nuns] knew she was leaving her husband, and figured she'd turn for a living to whoring." A red flag triggered in my mind, giving me a descriptive idea of how she feels/ looks upon herself insecure. Next I assessed Jamie as impatient and edgy. One example is the way Jaime dealt with her children fiercely, angrily, and impatiently; another example is that 'she wished she could smother the baby. Nobody would know. They were four days out of Oakland."
