DEFENSE PROGRAMS GET BOOST IN BUSH"S PROPOSED BUDGET
On Monday, President Bush proposed his new defense budget to congress. The budget focuses on increasing funding for Bell Helicopter's V-22 Osprey, Lockheed Martin's F/35 joint strike fighter, and the F/A-22 Raptor. Analysts say that the $401.7 billion budget is primarily a vote of confidence for Bell and Lockheed's defense contracts with the government. Bush's budget also calls for increased spending for missile defense in order to have a system in place by the end of 2005, which would set up more than thirty interceptors on land and sea. According to the government that military plans to spend less next year by buying new weapons systems, appointing more personnel to maintain, and upgrade, our current helicopters, tanks, and airplanes which have been battered during the war in Iraq. The budget calls for $1.3 billion to purchase eleven models of the V-22 in the 2005 fiscal year. Bush also asks for $4.15 billion to buy 24 F/A-22 aircrafts...
