I do not mean to say that students aren't able to learn a lot from attending a college/university these days. Instead, I would like to argue that the University's main priority today is aimed at training students to become as competitive and specialized in whatever major the student has chosen, as opposed to educate their students for life in general and for the value of learning for its own sake. Neither do I intend to blame policy makers of today's higher educational curriculum. They are simply just adapting to the very fast way our societies are changing during this second technological revolution. Major politicians are requiring the universities/colleges to offer programs that will produce a productive labor force so that the country as a whole will prosper from the fruits of that productive labor. Students entering colleges/universities demand and expect the institution of their choice to be able to offer them an education that will enable them to compete successfully in today's cutthroat competitive society. Now, this is of course not true for all students, there are still students who choose to go into majors and fields whose departments main priority are not to give their students means to compete in life. However, it seems that there is less and less room and potential for a student with a major from the humanitarian field as opposed to what is offered to a student with a technical or business related major. The students of course, have a choice of determining what they want to gain by their education. One ought not to blame the universities for not being able to provide students of all the various majors with a successful carrier...
