Albert's Changes
Have you ever done anything you regretted and wish you could go back and change that moment? This is the exact character Alice Walker portrays in The Color Purple. Albert is a character consumed by hatred and ill will towards Celie and other characters. These characters, especially Celie, have done nothing to deserve the abuse they receive from and by Albert. This abuse derives from the lack of a man Albert is deep inside himself. In his eyes he must prove his dominance by any means possible; which are more ways his personality and moral character lack. He lacks the emotional attachment, respect, responsibility and compassion to understand what he does to harm others is not acceptable or normal. Another reason why Albert acts the way he does, is because he does not know any better. He was not taught or shown it when he was a child and that consequently has a negative effect on all of the relationships he has throughout the novel. Albert does not comprehend the emotional and physical trauma he puts others through or the effect it has on them in the beginning of the novel but because of specific events throughout his life, Albert changes as a man...
