"Letters from the inside" is a novel that highlights the happiness that two characters find through their pen pal relationship. Friendship is one of the most important things to have in life. If you are in trouble, your friends are most of the time there to back you up, assist you to make the right decision, asking for help when not a problem, needing a shoulder to cry on, somebody you can count on, keep you company, entertain you and somebody to communicate with.
The dysfunctional communication between Mandy and Tracey happens in the first few letters of the book. Eventually the truth comes out, but it is hard for the Mandy to adapt. "I'm still in a state of shock, I admit, but something makes me keep writing", page 58, Mandy to Tracey. Not telling the truth is common to dysfunctional communication.
The two characters, Mandy and Tracey, at the beginning think that the pen pal story will not bring happiness to the friendship. " I don't know why I'm answering your ad" page 1, Mandy to Tracey. But later on in the novel, their friendship starts to grow and flourish...
