Persuasive Speech Topic: Does violence in the media cause violence in society? Is violence in society the media’s fault? This question has been debated since violent movies were first shown. There are a number of different types of media available today, from Newspapers to Television and the Internet. Over three thousand studies have already been conducted on this issue including a study by Dr Leonard Eron and Dr Rowell Huesmann, two Psychologists from the University of Michigan in America who conducted a study from the 1960’s for a period of 22 years. The study focused on eight hundred 8 year olds and found that those children who watched a lot of violent shows on TV were more aggressive than those who didn’t. They then checked on these children when they were 19 and 30 years old and discovered that the aggressive children had become more aggressive as they grew up. A scientist named David Phillips studied the effects of boxing matches on television and found that there would be a 10% increase in murder for a few days after each boxing match.
