Ecosystem is when populations of organism interact with the abiotic environment, it can result in a stable, independent unit and continue to exist by itself.
To design an ecosystem to demonstrate interactions among the different components, I will put some phytoplankton, zooplankton, and fish in a pond of water. The pond of water is the abiotic component to provide the resources and habitat for the organism to live. And it acts as their home and a place for them to feed.
The phytoplankton is the producer of the ecosystem. It captures energy by photosynthesis and converts the energy into biologically usable form. The primary consumer is the zooplankton and the fish is the secondary consumer, and phytoplankton, zooplankton, and fish in the pond make up the food web.
The population of the phytoplankton should be the greatest in the system, and the population of zooplankton should be greater than fish. It is because energy will loss at each trophic level, so the population of the organism should decrease when it go up to a higher trophic level to ensure that there are enough food to feed the organism. As the energy will loss in each trophic level, the food web should not exceed 5 trophic level to ensure that the energy provided is enough to feed to organism...
