For as long as there have been laws, there have been those who set out to defy them. Laws that prohibit such acts as stealing have been in place since before Moses descended Mt. Sinai and threw down the 10 commandments. And through the ages, the concept of stealing has evolved into many different terms, one being the term "piracy". Piracy used to mean outlaws who would rob, or "pirate" a convoy or ship and remove what was unrightfully theirs. But times change, and the term piracy has recently taken up new meaning away from the swords and sails that once scourged the seven seas. Lately the term has not applied to those forcibly taking bounty, but to those taking something that is provided for them over the internet. I believe that this has stretched the word too far to apply to the current situation of downloading files over the internet.
Yes, down loaders are technically stealing from the artists who release songs to make a profit. I am not arguing that, however the way that the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has gone about these violations has been less than effective...
