Dealing with Peer Pressure
Parents usually raise their children similar to the way they were raised. For example, if one or both of the parents played sports in high school, they would probably enroll their child in sports at a young age. Furthermore, children do not like to disappoint their parents, therefore they try and live up to the goals that their parents have set for them. Moreover, children try to succeed to the best of their abilities to gain their parents approval; such as being the star player of the sport their parents enrolled them in.
My mom was very open about her past. She made it very clear to my brother Clifford and I that she did not smoke or drink as a teenager. My mom always talked to Clifford and I about the dangers of drinking and smoking. She talked to us about when and how we would encounter peer pressure and how we could over come it.
