In the past when Boots was a growing firm, they were the first to offer so many products and services in one location. They took a risk by incorporating a different strategy. This strategy included diversifying their products and investing in new services within its chain. Boots was able to expand in the United Kingdom because consumers were responsive to their growing market strategies. Their advertising scheme was to sell "well-being" to the public. Boots achieved first mover advantage in the UK retail pharmacy market.
Due to Boot's declining sales in the more recent years, Boot's marketing strategies has shifted from expanding its market to concentrating on its current market. In 2001, Boots officially changed their company structure to concentrate on two of their core businesses: Boots the Chemist and Boots Healthcare International.
