Important Developments of Rock N Roll
The first half of the 20th century provided just the right elements to launch a new kind of music, rock n roll. Rock n roll gave life to a larger, faster paced generation we know now as the "Rock Generation." At the beginnings of rock n roll America was still dealing with the issue of equality for blacks in America, the rise of radio and television, and musical developments such as the electric guitar. It was these factors combined with others that helped shape the music we now refer to as rock n roll.
Probably one of the biggest factors rock n roll had to overcome was the very apparent racism and segregation in our society in the early 20th century. Original rock n roll came mostly from rhythm and blues and gospel. Since the vast majority of the people performing this kind of music were African American, there were issues. The worst problem with blacks not being socially accepted by whites was that their music no matter how good or bad it was, was not seen as equal to white music being produced. Early rock n roll suffered because the music was not accepted by a majority of people. The music industry combated this problem by using white artists to cover the black artists songs...
